MISSION: Leadership SouthCoast’s mission is to provide our region with an ongoing source of diverse leaders, who are prepared and committed to serve as catalysts and sustainers of positive change for the quality of life on the SouthCoast of Massachusetts.

THE CORE PROGRAM

Leadership SouthCoast (LSC) provides emerging leaders with a powerful learning environment and a dialogue that will last long after the program has been completed.

Each year a diverse group of acknowledged and aspiring leaders are selected to participate in a thought-provoking, 9-month community leadership program consisting of a one-day retreat and 8 monthly full-day sessions. Two of the 8 sessions are full day workshops on general leadership development presented by nationally-known leadership experts.  Class members form into  teams and complete a project during the program year that benefits the community.

 Participants are challenged by a variety of SouthCoast issues presented by leaders and experts in their fields. Numerous leaders in the region volunteer their time and expertise to the program days. Each year there is an average of 40 speakers and panelists.  The program includes on-site visits, readings, discussion groups, simulations, and other developmental activities. The purpose of the program is to transform a highly motivated group of individuals into a network of leaders with knowledge and commitment that benefits their community.

FOR PARTICIPANTS: Leadership SouthCoast creates opportunities for contact with influential leaders and provides experience in critical thinking, group dynamics, team leadership, presentation skills, ethics, and decision-making. Networking with other class members is often cited by graduates as a major opportunity. Participants grow as individuals and gain a better understanding of their community, learn cutting-edge leadership skills, and enhance personal relationships.  Leadership SouthCoast motivates and builds the confidence needed to become actively involved in promoting positive change for the SouthCoast.

FOR THE EMPLOYER: Leadership SouthCoast develops the organizational, leadership and problem solving skills of its participants. In addition, LSC offers new insights into the community and helps participants identify where strategic alliances might be forged.  Having Leadership SouthCoast graduates will help advance the employer’s overall engagement in community activities and needs.

FOR THE COMMUNITY: Leadership SouthCoast brings leaders together and encourages creative partnerships and initiatives among the public, non-profit, and private sectors. The program develops committed, knowledgeable and action-oriented people to serve as catalysts in promoting positive changes- people ready to roll up their sleeves and work to make the SouthCoast a great place to live, work, and visit.
